When it's time to get into your new dorm room at University, you'll want to make your space your own. A fun way of doing this is to put up posters, but is it allowed?
Can you put up posters in your dorm room?
The answer is it depends. You should always check with your University, check the handbook or ask someone. But usually, it's perfectly fine to hang up art, or posters as long as you don't damage the walls.
There's a few different ways of hanging your prints and posters in your room.
If you're looking to make your University room like home, here's what you need to hang up your posters and prints.
Blu Tack
One of the easiest options is Blu Tack. This is adhesive and tacky, clean and reusable. It can occasionally leave marks, but these will usually be able to be wiped clean.
Blu Tack is an option to stick up small photos, prints and art. The key is to use small amount around the perimeter of the print.
Washi Tape
Low tack tape or Washi tape is perfect for hanging prints on walls. It's super lightweight and can easily be removed. It comes in a range of colours, so much better than clear cellotape, and is less sticky, making it easier to remove and less likely to damage paint or walls.
Use A Pin Board
If putting stuff on your walls is a strict no-no, there's still other options. You can use a pin board.
Sometimes your room may come with a pin board which is already on the wall. If this is the case, you'll be able to pin up posters and prints on it.
Use Standing Frames
You can decorate your room with prints and posters by using standing frames. These can be stood on shelves, bookshelves, your desk or bedside table.
While a standing frame doesn't have the same impact as a wall poster, it's still a nice way of creating a cosy space when you want to put your personality on your room.
What NOT To Use
You'll not want to use anything which is going to cause any kind of damage to the walls. This includes tacks, nails or anything which needs to be hammered into the wall.
This will damage the wall, and so should be avoided at all costs.
On That Note
You can't paint or put wallpaper up in your dorm room, so the best way of putting your stamp on it is prints and posters. Give your Uni dorm some of your own personality with Veranito art prints that show off your own style.
You should have no issues putting up posters on your Uni room wall as long as you don't damage the wall. If someone checks or there's an inspection, the worst case scenario is they ask you to take them down.
Now all you need to do is decide your favourite posters for your uni room and you're set.
